What scrollandlearn does with a saved post
scrollandlearn asks for less up front and does one thing with it. You paste the link to a public post, or send it from your phone, and there is no notebook to set up and nothing to ask. Within a minute or so the post comes back as a lesson: a one-line core idea, key points, the sentence worth keeping, a transcript for videos, and a thing to try when the post suggests one. Below is an example of the lesson a short post on X about working with AI tools becomes.
Ask for the plan first
Ask for a plan and approve it before the model writes the full draft.
Key points
- Request an outline or approach first, then approve it before the full draft.
- Ask what it would need to know to do the task better before it starts.
- Use the plan as the record of what you actually asked for.
- On long tasks, re-show the plan partway through to stop drift.
Try this
On your next long task, ask for an outline first.
Remember this
Fixing a plan costs a sentence, fixing a draft costs a rewrite.
In the quiz
Why ask the model for a plan before the draft?
The lesson lands in a topic the app names after what you keep saving, and the question at the bottom is the one Today's quiz asks when the lesson is due. You answer in your head, tap Show answer and grade yourself, and the grade decides when it comes back:
Forgot
Tomorrow
and it starts over
Kind of
In 4 days
and it keeps its progress
Knew it
In 14 days
then 35, 88, 219 days, then a year
Over weeks that builds a knowledge score per topic, the share of lessons you remembered out of those that have come up. Search reaches the exact words of a transcript, and My takeaway holds up to 500 characters of your own view on any lesson.
What NotebookLM is today
Google introduced NotebookLM in 2023 and renamed it Gemini Notebook on 16 July 2026. Its announcement says it stays a standalone research tool, that old links and shared notebooks redirect, and that notebooks can now also be opened from the Gemini app. Most people still search for it by the old name, so this page uses both.
The idea is a notebook per project. You add sources, or let Fast Research and Deep Research find some on the web or in your Google Drive, and the chat answers from those sources with in-line citations. The Studio panel then turns the same material into study guides, briefings, mind maps, reports, infographics, slide decks, flashcards, quizzes, Audio Overviews with two AI hosts and Video Overviews in several formats. Google's help center says your data is not used to train the product unless you send feedback.
What you get with scrollandlearn
- Posts from social networks. As of 22 October 2026, Gemini Notebook's list of source types names YouTube and no other social network. scrollandlearn reads posts from 15+ platforms, including what is said in TikTok and Instagram videos and the words printed on carousel slides.
- Whole podcast episodes. Paste a Spotify or Apple Podcasts episode and it is transcribed from start to end, up to 6 hours within your plan's transcription minutes, then written up as one lesson, with a section for every 20 minutes or so of a long one.
- One paste, no notebook. A post you saved on the bus becomes a lesson with one paste, with no notebook to choose, and on Creator and Power one link to a public playlist or profile brings in up to 25 posts on Creator and 100 on Power.
- Bringing it back. NotebookLM's flashcards remember which cards you missed. scrollandlearn sets a date for every lesson from your last grade, so Today's quiz only asks about what is due.
- Sorting itself. Lessons file into topics on their own, each topic keeps a big picture across its lessons, and when small topics pile up the app suggests grouping them.
- Things to do. Try this turns a suggestion in a post into one step, and Things to try keeps the ones you pick, with a done check.
What NotebookLM offers that scrollandlearn does not
- Long documents. A source can run to 500,000 words, and a free notebook holds 50 of them, so a thesis, a contract or a textbook fits whole.
- Asking questions. You can ask anything about your sources and get an answer with citations, which scrollandlearn does not offer at all.
- Listening. Audio Overviews turn a notebook into a conversation between two AI hosts, in 80+ languages, and an interactive mode lets you ask the hosts questions in English.
- Many outputs from one stack. Study guides, mind maps, reports, slide decks and Video Overviews come from the same notebook.
- Finding sources. Fast Research and Deep Research pull in material from the web or from your Drive.
- Price and apps. The Standard plan is free with a Google account, and there is a mobile app as well as the web.
Where scrollandlearn falls short
- No document library. Word files, slide decks, ebooks and reports have no place in it.
- No chat with your lessons, and no audio or video overviews.
- A lesson turns a lecture into sections of key points, so a lecture you want to question line by line is better kept in a notebook.
- Web articles from a pasted link work only for LinkedIn; others go in through the browser extension, in Firefox so far.
- A web app with no native app, and no shared or public library.
- It is paid after the free start: 10 lessons free, no card, then Starter at $19.99 a month.
Using both
The two rarely hold the same material. A research project with papers, notes and long recordings belongs in a notebook. The reels and posts you save between tasks belong in scrollandlearn, where they turn into questions you get asked later. YouTube is where they meet: send a lecture to NotebookLM when you want to ask it questions, and to scrollandlearn when you want one lesson written from all of it and a quiz later.
Nothing syncs between them. If you want your lessons in a notebook, Export lessons downloads them as Markdown files, a file type Gemini Notebook's help pages list among its sources, so you can add the ones on one topic and ask questions across them.

Frequently asked questions
- Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook?
- Yes. Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on 16 July 2026. Its announcement says the product stays a standalone research tool and that existing links and shared notebooks redirect automatically.
- Can NotebookLM read TikTok or Instagram videos?
- As of 22 October 2026, Gemini Notebook's help page on sources lists YouTube URLs of public videos with captions as its video source, and does not name TikTok or Instagram. scrollandlearn writes a lesson from what is said in a TikTok or Reel you paste. In scrollandlearn, a video with music and no talking gives no lesson.
- Does NotebookLM use spaced repetition?
- As of 22 October 2026, its help page on flashcards and quizzes describes marking cards as known or missed, saving your progress and practising only the cards you missed, and does not describe a review schedule. scrollandlearn schedules each lesson from your grade. Forgot brings a lesson back tomorrow and starts it over, Kind of in 4 days, Knew it in 14 days, then 35, 88 and 219 days, then a year.
- How much does NotebookLM cost compared with scrollandlearn?
- As of 22 October 2026, Gemini Notebook is free with a Google account, and Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra raise its limits: two times the standard limits on Plus, four times on Pro, and five or twenty times Pro's on Ultra. On scrollandlearn your first 10 lessons are free with no card, then Starter is $19.99 a month for 100 saves. You can cancel any time.
- Can I add my scrollandlearn lessons to NotebookLM?
- Yes, by hand. Export lessons downloads your lessons as Markdown, CSV or JSON, and Markdown files are among the source types Gemini Notebook's help pages list. There is no sync, so a lesson you add later needs exporting again.
