How do I organize my saved posts on Reddit?

Reddit saves a post from its overflow menu and lists it under Saved on your profile. To organize what those posts said, paste a post's reddit.com link into scrollandlearn, which writes the title and text of the post into a lesson and files it under a topic by itself. Comments are not read, so save the posts where the explanation is written out in the post itself.

Where Reddit keeps what you save

Reddit's help center gives two routes. On reddit.com, click the overflow menu on the post, then Save; to find it later, go to your profile and click the Saved tab. In the iOS and Android apps, tap the overflow menu at the top right of the post and tap Save in the pop-up. To see your saves there, open your profile page, tap the three-line menu near the top right and choose Saved.

Saving takes one tap, which is why the list grows fast. A typical Saved tab mixes a long answer about index funds, tips for a first marathon, a recipe and a dozen posts you no longer remember choosing. The posts are kept. What you took from each one is written nowhere, and the best part of many Reddit posts is a reply three screens down.

The subreddit name hints at the subject: a post from r/personalfinance is probably about money. It does not answer the question you will have in six months, which is what rule that post laid out and whether you ever followed it.

Turn Reddit saves into lessons

  1. Open Saved: on reddit.com, your profile, then the Saved tab; in the app, your profile, the three-line menu, then Saved.
  2. Copy the post's address: open the post in your browser and copy the address from the address bar, the one that starts with reddit.com/r/. A redd.it short link is not supported, so paste the full reddit.com address.
  3. Paste it into scrollandlearn: open the app, tap Add and paste the link. The post's title and body are read and written into a lesson, usually within a minute.
  4. Read what came back: a core idea in one line, key points and Remember this, plus Try this when there is something to do. The link back to the Reddit post stays on the lesson.
  5. Bring the best comment along: replies are not read, so if the answer you saved the post for was in a comment, write its point as My takeaway in your own words.
  6. Check the topic: the lesson files itself under a topic such as Money habits. Tap Change to move it, and when the app suggests Group topics for a few small ones, you decide.
  7. Share from your browser next time: on iPhone, tap Add to Shortcuts in scrollandlearn once, then, with the post open on reddit.com, use your browser's Share button and pick the Shortcut. On Android, install scrollandlearn from Chrome first (Install and create shortcut in Chrome's menu), then share the page from Chrome and choose it. On a computer, click Add and paste.

Here is an example of the lesson a long text post in a personal finance community becomes. It illustrates what a lesson keeps from a post that argues a case: the argument and the line worth remembering. The example shows the format and is not financial advice.

Index funds beat picking

For most people broad index funds beat picking stocks, mostly because of fees and timing.

Key points

  • Most active funds fail to beat their benchmark over a ten year window.
  • Fees compound against you the same way returns compound for you.
  • Broad index exposure removes the need to have an opinion on any single company.
  • The main job after choosing is to not interfere with it.

Remember this

Picking winners means being right twice, on the buy and on the sell.

Text posts, link posts and comments

Reddit is mostly words, which suits a tool that reads words. What gets read is narrow, though, and worth knowing before you paste.

You pasteYou get
A TikTok, Reel, Facebook video, Snapchat Spotlight or Twitch clip where someone talksA transcript of what is said, a short summary and key points
A TikTok, Reel or Facebook video with music and no talkingUsually no lesson: it is written from what is said, and the caption is not used
A YouTube video or Short with captionsA transcript from the captions, a short summary and key points
A YouTube video or Short without captionsNo lesson; it asks you to upload the video file
A YouTube community postIts text and the text printed on its images; together they need about 300 characters
A post on X, Threads, Reddit, Bluesky, LinkedIn or a public Telegram channelThe text of the post you link, written down as a lesson; replies and comments are not read
A video on X, Threads, LinkedIn or RedditUnder 300 characters of post text: a transcript of what is said (on Reddit, from its own captions), or else the post's text. 300 or more: the post's text, without the video
A photo post or carousel on Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, LinkedIn or TelegramThe text printed on the images; photos are not described. On Instagram and TikTok, caption and slides together need about 300 characters
A Spotify or Apple Podcasts episodeThe whole episode, transcribed from the show's public podcast feed; a Spotify exclusive gives only its title and description
A private or deleted postNo lesson; it can't be read, so upload the file if you have it
A link to an article or any other websiteNot saved; only posts from the 15+ supported platforms, and LinkedIn articles
  • Text posts: the title and body become the lesson. Length doesn't matter; a three-line answer works as well as a long write-up.
  • Link posts: when a post points to an article, only its title is read. The article is not opened, so the lesson has a headline and little else. Save the post where someone wrote the explanation out, or a text post that discusses the article.
  • Comments: replies are not read. A post that asks a question in its body and gets the answers below gives a lesson about the question.
  • Images and galleries: images in a Reddit post are not read, including words printed on them. On Instagram, TikTok photo posts, X, Threads and LinkedIn printed text on images is read; on Reddit it is not.
  • Videos: when the title and text together are under 300 characters, a Reddit video is read from Reddit's own captions if it has them, and the lesson is written from what is said; without captions, the title and text make the lesson. With 300 characters or more, the title and text are the lesson and the captions are not read.
  • redd.it links: short redd.it links are not supported. Paste the full reddit.com address.
  • Removed or private posts: deleted posts, removed posts and posts in private communities can't be read from the link.

Keep forum answers in your head

A Reddit answer sticks with you because it is specific: a number, a rule of thumb, ten years of someone's experience in four paragraphs. Specific things also fade first. Today's quiz brings each lesson back with a question written from it, for this example why index funds beat picking stocks for most people. Answer it silently, tap Show answer, then grade it.

Grade Forgot and the lesson is back on tomorrow's quiz with its schedule reset. Kind of returns it after 4 days. Knew it holds it for 14 days, and each further Knew it widens the gap, to 35, 88 and 219 days and then a full year.

Things to try turns advice into a checklist: keep the Try this items you mean to act on and tick each one off when it is done. For each topic, the knowledge score shows the share of due lessons you remembered, judged by your last grade. It appears once the first lesson in the topic comes up for a quiz, and a lesson that came due without an answer counts against it, so a neglected topic can read 0%. The topic's big picture pulls every lesson in it into one short summary, which reads like the answer to the question you kept asking Reddit.

Today's quiz sits above your topics; questions from Reddit lessons come up there with the rest.

Which Reddit posts are worth a lesson

  • Long first-person write-ups, the 'what I learned in five years of...' kind. The method is in the body, where it gets read.
  • Questions the poster later answered in an edit to the post. The edit is part of the body, so the answer comes along.
  • Guides a community keeps pointing newcomers to, when they are text posts.
  • Skip link posts unless the title says it all; the page behind them is not opened.
  • Skip memes and image posts. Images are not read, so all a lesson gets is the post's title.
  • Paste soon after saving. Posts get deleted and removed, and an old save may no longer be readable.

Frequently asked questions

Are comments included?
No. The post's title and text are read, and the captions of a video post whose text is under 300 characters, but not the comments. If a comment held the answer you saved the post for, add its point to the lesson as My takeaway.
Does it read images in Reddit posts?
No. Images in a Reddit post are not read, including any words printed on them. Only the title, the text and, on a video post with under 300 characters of text, the video's own captions count.
What happens with a link post?
Only its title is read; the article it points to is not opened. That makes a thin lesson, so save text posts, or the post where the explanation is written out.
Why doesn't my redd.it link work?
redd.it short links are not supported. Open the post and paste its reddit.com address instead.
How many Reddit posts can I save a month?
Each post you paste is one save. Starter includes 100 a month, Creator 250 and Power 1,000.
